This blade shape was preferred by explorers, settlers, hunters, and fur trappers throughout early America because it was excellent at skinning and processing game. Additionally, this shape was a great choice because it allowed these outdoorsmen to build a fire and set up camp each night. The AD20 Butcher also tips its cap to a local Pennsylvania legend, George Washington "Nessmuk" Sears, who was an avid outdoorsman, writer, and conservationist. He preferred this blade shape for his fixed blade carry. This heritage and legacy is thoughtfully carried through into a folding knife platform, meaning that the AD20 Butcher is a great everyday carry, but is designed Performance First to be right at home in a camping or hunting pack.

Making a Classic Blade Modern

The AD20 Butcher features a modified spey-point blade and a very intentionally-designed Demko Dynamic Grind that allows variable behind-the-edge geometry along the length of the blade. This "twisting" aspect to a blade grind can only be achieved by adding an additional axis of movement to the primary bevel grind that conventional knives do not include. On the AD20 Butcher, this means a narrower angle and more slicey geometry toward the tip of the blade, and a stouter, wider angle near the base of the blade. Keeping in touch with this pattern's rich history, the thin tip would be perfect for skinning or detailed tasks while the reinforced base supports heavier camp tasks.
