Demko Knives will collaborate alongside these industry heroes to tell the stories and create many knife projects in the years to come.
Knife-Heroes™ is an ongoing Demko Knives program through which Andrew Demko highlights key members of the knifemaking industry -- people he deems true "Knife Heroes." These individuals have reached legendary knifemaker status, introduced game-changing design and engineering, or otherwise changed the knife industry forever. Through the Demko Knives Knife-Heroes™ program, Andrew's goal is to pay his respects to true legends of the knife industry. Andrew knows that these lifelong works and stories need to be preserved and passed down to the younger generations.

Why Knife-Heroes™?
Andrew Demko fell in love with the idea of knifemaking in middle school. The idea of the “modern pocketknife” is so new that Andrew was able to grow up seeing the entire industry develop from the ground up. Concepts that we take for granted today, like one-handed manual folding knives and pocket clips didn’t exist before the 1980s. Andrew's passion in life was ignited at exactly the right time to witness the modern knifemaking revolution and cement his legacy as one of the very best lock and knife designers.
While Andrew Demko has truly revolutionized the knife world with his unrivaled locking mechanisms and iconic ergonomics, he knows that he stands on the shoulders of giants. These giants either directly impacted him as mentors in his early years, altered the way Andrew viewed knifemaking, or changed the game so much that it gave Andrew a new field upon which to play.
Now that he has built his own knife company as a platform to share designs, locks, and engineering, Andrew wants to pay his respects to his Knife-Heroes™.
These collaboration projects will feature the iconic designs of each Knife-Hero, coupled with the engineering, lock mechanisms, and manufacturing abilities of Demko Knives to create special limited production knives.
Bob Terzuola
Father of the Tactical Folding Knife
Bob Terzuola is considered the originator of the tactical folding knife. With over 40 years of experience making tactical knives, Terzuola literally wrote the book on Tactical Knives in 2000. Terzuola pioneered many concepts within the knife industry that we take for granted today, including the application of pocket clips on custom knives, the application of the liner locks on production knives, and the philosophy of making a folding knife operable one-handed. Bob Terzuola can also claim a pivotal role in the success of then-fledgling industry giants like Spyderco Knives and Benchmade Knives. Watch Andrew's interview with Bob as the pair discuss why this project is so deserving of the Knife-Heroes™ treatment.
Kikuo MatsudaKiku Knives
Japanese Master Bladesmith
Andrew has the utmost respect for world-renowned Japanese knife and sword maker Kikuo Matsuda of Kiku Knives. When Andrew started brainstorming his idea that would become Knife-Heroes™, Kikuo Matsuda quickly came to the forefront of Andrew's mind. Matsuda lives in Seki City, Japan, the city known as Japan's "City of Swords" for over 700 years. Seki City has been at the center of Japan's legendary blade production, including meticulously-crafted Samurai swords, since the 13th century. Deserving of the honor of respected master bladesmith, Kikuo Matsuda carries on his city's legacy with over 40 years of experience in the trade. His knives and swords are sought after worldwide and are often very hard to obtain.
